What is escienze?

escienze is a three year, online science curriculum for middle school students, parents and teachers. It includes Earth Science, Life Science, Basic Chemistry and Introductory Physics.  escienze has been developed by a middle school science teacher with 12 years of teaching experience in private schools.

Typically science textbooks are inadequate for middle school students. The books written for middle school are often too basic and do not give the students a good foundation, and the books written for high school are too advanced. escienze is the solution.

escienze gives students an excellent foundation of knowledge to take them into high school and college. 

History

After becoming frustrated with the limitations of science textbooks, a middle school teacher made the decision to use teaching notes instead of a textbook. This method of curriculum delivery was a big improvement on traditional textbooks but the drawback was that the students spent much of their time note taking, leaving little time for labs and discussion. To solve this problem, the entire curriculum was prepared for access via website including graphics, movies and online study guides for quizzes and tests. The response from students and parents was so enthusiastic, that the entire curriculum was prepared for access via a website.

The results were striking. Student’s learning improved significantly.  In addition, more class time was devoted to discussion of concepts, laboratory procedures, and analyses and interpretation of results. 

Student Benefits

Students have access to all the materials and can track their own progress on escienze with a series of quizzes  for each subject that get  progressively harder.  The material on the website is updated at the end of each academic year, keeping it current in a field that is rapidly expanding and changing.  This teaching tool is unique and cutting edge, and students get excited about science through the use of technology.
